Iran wins world military taekwondo championship

TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s military taekwondo squad have won 22nd World Military Taekwondo Championship (CISM).

Ministry of Defense and Iran’s national Taekwondo Federation hosted the games where more than 100 athletes from 18 countries competed. The games kicked off on August 17 and saw Iran standing in the first place in the last day (Tuesday).

In the last day, -68 and -80Kg. classes met the rivals in Taekwondo House, where in -68Kg., Fu Ying from China won the gold medal, Al-Rashayed, from Qatar stood in the second place, and Iran’s Reza Habibi jointly won the bronze with Mkhitiov from Russia.

In -80Kg. class, Milad Beigi defeated Hamid Abdul Rahim from Qatar to win the gold, and Yerminian, from Armenia and Jordan’s Jabir shared the bronze and third place.

In total, Iran stood in the first place with 4 gold medals by Abolfazl Yaqoubi, Mohammad Kazemi, Milad Beigi and Omid Amidi, and a single bronze by Reza Habibi with 58 points.

This was Iran’s 4th championship in International Military Sports Council (CISM) taekwondo competitions.

China came second with 2 golds and a bronze medal and 41 points; Brazil stood in the 3rd place with 1 gold, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes and 40 points.

In poomsae form, which was played on Sunday, Iran also became champion with 2 golds, with Colombia in the second place with single silver. Vietnam came third with the same single silver only for fewer points. Akbar Firouzan and Ali Salmani were gold winners for Iran.

In women’s section, Iran also came triumphant with 4 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronzes, and 61 points.
